FAQs
Q. When can I get up and down the channel to
the Marina?
A. The channel is dredged to ½ a metre below
datum. That means an average draft fin keel yacht should be able to navigate
the channel at all states of the tide except dead low water springs. Motors
boats of average draft should enjoy unrestricted access up and down the
channel.
Q. When can I get over the cill?
A. It is not a fixed cill. It is a hinged tidal
flap gate, which pivots up and down with the tide. All vessels of 1.5m draft will
get the full six hours free flow in every cycle. If your draft is 1.5m or less
and the traffic light at the entrance to the marina is Green, you can come and
go as you please. Vessels with deeper keels may lose up to 45 minutes on each
end of the cycle, hence a boat of 2.5m draft can enter/exit at approximately
+/- 2.5- 2.25 Hours either side of high tide. These times are approximate and
are affected by tide and weather conditions.
Q. In the Premier Advantage, it states that I
am entitled to three free boat moves. Does this apply at Southsea?
A. We have waived this restriction at Southsea to
make your sailing more flexible and enjoyable and allow an unlimited number of
boat moves. (We do reserve the right to levy a charge if vessels are taken to
the holding pontoon by ourselves and not used by the owner or if the boat is
left on the holding pontoon whilst the gate is open).
Q. I need to get some work done
on my new boat. Are there people on site that can assist?
A. Yes, there are various contractors both on-site and locally who can assist you. There is a fully serviced boatyard offering a 20-ton hoist, forklift, mobile crane and boat mover.
Q. At some marinas, they insist
that masts are un-stepped before lifting boats. Does Southsea insist on this?
A. No, you may leave your mast up if you so choose.
Q. I mostly day sail, which other
Premier marinas can I reach in a few hours, where I can use my free visitor
nights?
A. Chichester, Gosport and Port Solent are an easy hop away.
Q. Will there be someone at Marina reception to call on 24
hours a day?
A. Yes, we are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Call in or use VHF channel 80 to speak to us without leaving your vessel.
Q. When can I buy my fuel?
A. Diesel and petrol are available 24 hours a day on the outer waiting pontoon.
